We are seeking a contract UX researcher and designer who is comfortable with a variety of UX research methodologies, including user interviews, tree testing, surveys, card sorting, participatory design, usability studies, and heuristic analysis. Able to assist in identifying actionable insights from the research to create reports and inform user journeys and personas.
Then use those insights to assist in site maps, flows and wireframes. Experience working on large, content-rich websites with complex navigation structures (associations, higher education, nonprofits, or enterprise sites) is strongly preferred.
Excellent writing and presentation skills are a must. Attention to detail is required.
Responsibilities
- Conduct user research with guidance to understand users’ needs, tasks, and goals and translate them into user stories and user requirements
- Assist in developing information architecture and navigation systems for large, complex B2B websites
- Create user flows and wireframe prototypes
- Apply UX best practices, including accessibility, SEO/AEO considerations, and usability standards
- Support and participate in usability studies, tree testing, and card sorting activities
- Participate in the development of user personas and scenarios to clarify the results of the user research and focus the team's design efforts on the needs of key users
- Work closely with Product Owners, UI, development, and client teams
- Present work internally and contribute to presentations for client stakeholders.
- Work within project budgets while meeting deadlines
Qualifications
- BS/BA degree or MS/MA in HCI, Human Factors, Interaction Design, Information Studies, Anthropology, or equivalent professional work-related experience
- 2–3 years of professional UX research and/or UX design experience (please include a URL to your portfolio)
- Portfolio must include at least one example of UX research and one example of information architecture or navigation design for a content-rich website
- Self-motivated, driven, and collaborative

- Keen understanding of usability principles, web standards, UI patterns, AI and accessibility and their application
- Proven ability to diplomatically advocate for the user and communicate informed design rationale and value
- Understanding of responsive and mobile design patterns
- Experience with industry-standard software such as Figma
- Experience using web analytics data to inform design decisions a plus
- Experience with remote testing and AI-enhanced UX tools

- Experience designing for Drupal and WordPress
